Have a Canadair CL 215 which is a plane from (no, take a guess!).
As we can see it’s used as amongst other things a water bomber. Made until 1990, it has been replaced by the CL 415, essentially an updated 215. Alarmingly nearly 10% of the CL 415s made to date have been lost in crashes. The CL 215 has an even worse record, with 26 of the 125 made lost so far.

I have to wonder if that flight record is less a part of their build and more a consequence of the nature of their work.

Probably, given that they scoop up water repeatedly and then dump it from low altitude onto a fire. I still wouldn’t get in one though!
